Power season 4 spoilers: How James St. Patrick finds his peace

James St. PatrickWhen Power season 4 premieres on Starz later this month, James St. Patrick is absolutely going to find himself in a position that he didn’t quite imagine that he would be in: Behind bars. Angela put him there for Greg’s murder, even though he’s innocent of the crime. (Sure, he’s guilty of plenty of other stuff, but that is neither here nor there.)

The fact that Ghost is innocent of this specific crime seems to be what keeps him sane in the interim. In speaking on this subject further per Entertainment Weekly, show executive producer Courtney A. Kemp had the following to pass along:

“That’s why I call the first episode ‘When I Get Out.’ It’s about him trying to keep it together because he knows he didn’t do it, and Angela is scheming and mad at him. She actually thinks he did it.”

Basically, the start of the season will be about Ghost buying his time, knowing that there is only so much that he can do behind bars … but also knowing that there’s no real evidence of his guilt out in the real world. With that, he’s going to take to some other activities in order to buy some time, and that includes hitting the weights. This is something that Omari Hardwick specifically wanted on the show for the sake of authenticity:

“It’s extremely corny to have a guy who’s physical but not have him working out,. It doesn’t make any sense. I can’t stand that about shows or films. Ghost is caged in. It’s partly symbolic of a lion trapped who can’t roar. He has to maintain his sanity, so he uses weights.”

If nothing else, all the working out Ghost does behind bars should prove useful when he gets out and has to deal with the near-constant presence of people who want to kill him. It’s been a defining part of the show so far, and it’s hard to necessarily see that changing. Even when Jamie wants “out” of the business, some inevitable vortex comes and finds a way to suck him right back in.

What do you think will become of Jamie this season; do you think he could stay behind bars for so long that it starts to really bother him? Share below!
