Gotham season 3 finale spoilers: Harley Quinn tease still coming

Harley Quinn

Many months ago, the news first came out about Harley Quinn having some sort of role to play in the Gotham season 3 finale. Yet, so much time has transpired since then that it’s easy to just think that producers are going in a different direction with the character.

Luckily, we’re here today to report officially that this is not the case. Speaking per Movie Pilot while at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest recently in London, David Mazouz confirmed that Harley Quinn is still in fact coming. However, in what form she appears is still a big question. It’s possible that this could just be a reference, or a tiny cameo featuring a young child that someday becomes Dr. Harleen Quinzel.

One theory out there for a long time is that Barbara Kean eventually becomes the show’s version of the character, but this wouldn’t be ideal in our mind given that her backstory is so different from the comic-book counterpart. Plus, turning Barbara into Harley would suggest that her character is not good enough on her own, and at this point this does not necessarily feel as though it’s the case. She’s earned her stripes with this show playing a freaky, at-times angry character.

While Harley would be pretty young within the Gotham universe if they are sticking with the comic-book timeline, it does make sense for the show to want to bring her on given that she is arguably one of the most famous comic-book villains out there. All you have to do is look at the three hundred different people who dress in costume at her at comic-book conventions to know she’s popular and that bringing her into Gotham could get some more eyeballs on the show. That could be especially important going into season 4, especially if you can find a way to also bring in the show’s version of the Joker in Jerome. The thing with Batman in general is that so much of the selling point of the comics are the villains. Perhaps more so than any other series out there, he’s got an excellent assembly of crazy, colorful characters that you want to see engage and cause a little bit of chaos. Nobody better identifies with chaos than Harley.
