Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers season 35 title; more info

Survivor: Heroes

There are strange Survivor episode titles, and then there’s the season 35 title of Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers set for the fall.

Why this title? It’s obviously a callback to the original two Brains vs. Beauty vs. Brawn seasons, and also Survivor: Worlds Apart — which was effectively White Collar vs. Blue Collar vs. No Collar. It doesn’t take too much effort in order to figure out what the theme for this story will be. Three will be three tribes, more than likely with six people each, all fighting for the million-dollar title. Along the way, there will probably be a wide array of twists and turns.

The first thing to say is that it’s nice to see the show get back to an 18-person format, mostly because this seems to be the perfect number of cast members so that people aren’t completely forgotten. One of the bigger issues this season is that in between the double-episodes and the huge cast, everything seemed to happen really quickly.

Also, it’s going to be nice to see the show try to celebrate once more the differences between so many of us. This doesn’t feel all that different from some of the other recent themes, but many of those seasons were reasonably good. Much of the success ultimately comes down to casting more so than anything else. With the right people on board, the theme will probably work out great. With the wrong people, it may not turn out that way. This is a social game, and the people and relationships will define the season in the end.

One thing about the teaser tonight that was strange was this: The definition of “hustlers.” That seems ambiguous, no?

Obviously, there will be a lot more to work out about this season as it gets closer and closer to the show premiering. The cast will be unveiled in the summer, and at that point, the spotlights will begin. One last thing worth stating here is that the show doesn’t necessarily need to shake things up go to another level in order to be great. It just needs to keep track of what made the show great in the first place and not get too caught up in the meta aspect of it all.
