Poldark season 3 the most wonderful casting story ever

Many actors have a wonderful casting story at one point or another. For Ellise Chappell, it happened with Poldark season 3.

Speaking in the Daily Mail’s You magazine this weekend, the actress recounted the experience of being cast in the role of Morwenna, Elizabeth’s cousin in the series. For Chappell, she found out that she had landed the role right when she was preparing to go and take back her job as a barista:

“I got the Poldark call as I was walking to the cafe in North London where I used to be a barista to ask for my old job back … I stopped in my tracks, turned around and skipped home.”

As if this isn’t a fun enough story, she also recounted how her mother reacted to the news:

“When I rang my mum to tell her she couldn’t stop laughing and I was crying. Then I started laughing and she started crying.”

How is this important at all within the context of the larger series? Much of it has to do very much with the emotional attachment so many of us do have to some of the shows that we watch on a regular basis. We want to care for them beyond just what it on the screen, and hearing little stories like this is a rather fantastic aid to doing so. It makes the cast and crew a little more relatable, and reminds us that the people on television are not really all that different from the people watching it — they have plenty of their own struggles they must deal with.

In general, Poldark is almost as relatable a show as possible despite it taking place in a different time. After all, you just need to remember that these characters are all deeply flawed in one way or another. If you look at someone like Ross, it is very clear from the onset that he is someone who has his fair share of deep, obvious struggles. His businesses have collapsed, he’s fallen on hard times, and worst of all he’s been unfaithful and he may be the father of Elizabeth’s baby. There are certain things here that you certainly don’t want to relate to, but this is a show that does not put its characters on a pedestal in any form.

Is the relatability one of the things you cherish the most about Poldark as a series? Be sure to share in the attached comments!
