The Big Bang Theory season 10 finale spoilers: The cliffhanger conundrum

Cliffhanger Conundrum

It felt right to title this article in the same way as a Big Bang Theory episode, just as it also feels right to be boiling over with anticipation already. Tonight, the season 10 finale airs on CBS. Ten seasons. It’s crazy. It’s somewhat easy to remember watching the pilot and the classic “our children will be smart and beautiful” – “not to mention imaginary” exchange.

The video below features Jim Parsons and the all cast going full-hype mode on the finale, and one thing that comes up time and time again is the notion that this episode works to pay off the journey. In some ways, it seems like it was all ten seasons in the making. Running through the possible scenarios, everything from Amy being pregnant to Penny being pregnant to Sheldon getting engaged turns up as a possibility. Personally, it’d be interesting to see the show veer off more into unexpected territory. What if this episode features the first appearance from Howard’s dad? What if it features a life-changing career revelation? Relationship are important with the show, but make no mistake they’re not the only part of it.

Parsons’ comment is the most interesting: There is a cliffhanger, but it’s only “half” done. The other half of the reveal is likely coming in the premiere. Maybe there’s a proposal without a response, or a possible pregnancy reveal without a confirmation. Or, to go back to the Howard’s father theory, maybe Howard opens the door, says “dad,” and the man on the other side isn’t seen.

One other question: How is Riki Lindhome involved? The presence of Dr. Ramona Nowitzki, a character not seen on the show in YEARS, suggests that she could influence Sheldon in some way and the cliffhanger is Sheldon-based.

No matter the reveal, there’s reason to be excited to watch tonight’s finale, preferably live, to see what sort of cliffhanger conundrum the show actually presents. Season 10 is a watershed one for The Big Bang Theory given that Howard and Bernadette now have a child, the government project is complete, and Amy and Sheldon have a more physical relationship than ever before. With a sitcom like this, it needs a combination of humor and progression. If the story stays stagnant, there’s no sense of growth and there’s no purpose behind the story. It’s just a laugh factory at that point — and not the good Laugh Factory that exists in Los Angeles.

Before departing…

Something to check out is the new list of Big Bang Theory conspiracy theories published a couple of days ago — they’re not to be taken seriously, but they are still a good bit of fun.
