The Flash season 3 episode 22 spoilers: Captain Cold returns; how?

The Flash season 3 episode 22

Leading up to The Flash season 3 episode 22 next week, odds are that you probably know that Captain Cold is coming back. He was featured in a recent sizzle reel, and the synopsis that you will see below has been out for a few weeks now.

For the time being, there is still one overarching question that does not have an answer: How in the world is this guy back? If you think back to Legends of Tomorrow and the season 1 finale there, he was killed off as he sacrificed himself for the team. Meanwhile, Leonard Snart was put back in the timeline prior to joining the Legends at the end of Legends of Tomorrow season 2, where he ran a little bit amok as a part of the Legion of Doom. Putting him back with Barry Allen next week should be fun when it comes to entertainment, but in terms of viability there are some question marks all over the place. If we had to guess, our preliminary thinking is that Barry went back in time in order to get some of the information necessary. Who knows, though? Maybe Snart is somewhere still out there as a result of Flashpoint, and because Barry hadn’t gone back in time at the point in Legends of Tomorrow in which he was dropped off, he is somehow still alive out there.

The Flash season 3 episode 22 synopsis – “With only 24 hours left until Savitar murders Iris (Candice Patton), Barry (Grant Gustin) struggles to save the woman he loves and makes the choice to use any means necessary to do so. Realizing he has one option left to save her, The Flash turns to Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) for help.”

Other than the return of Cold, the show really isn’t all that interested in giving much away. That shouldn’t shock anyone given that there are only three episodes still to go this season, and it’s only going to get more intense from here.
