NCIS: Los Angeles: Viewers reflect on character growth before season finale

Character growth

Fans of NCIS: Los Angeles would need to be hiding under a rock to not know there is a big story coming up. It is the season finale with Special Agent Sam Hanna airing on Sunday. It’s been teased, talked about and speculation is endless. Also endless is the enthusiasm the viewers have for the show. Characters of the  CBS series have grown over the past season, and they are going to need much of that growth in the aftermath of the death of Sam’s wife Michelle at the end of this past episode.

As we watched every week, the challenges that Henrietta “Hetty” Lange’s team have faced aren’t been small. Capturing a mole, nursing Special Agent Kensi Blye back to health, finding bad guys and fighting crime are a few of the stories fans have watched from the comfort of their own home. There was also the unexpected passing of Miguel Ferrer. Not only did this impact the NCIS: Los Angeles story, but in real life reminded viewers just how fragile life truly is.

It’s been a mixed bag when it comes to the satisfaction level of each character. Starting with the painfully obvious, there has been no official engagement. Technically, LAPD Liaison Marty Deeks and Special Agent Kensi Blye are still single, even if it’s known they are dating and there are many botched engagements already. Fans are speculating a proposal will be part of the cliffhanger. So far the only hints about the season finale revolve around Agent Hanna. Maybe it will happen, but even if there is an engagement it might not be enough to satisfy the fans who have waited so long.

Special Agent G. Callen has seen his share of personal disappointments as well. Coming off of a bad breakup and dealing with family issues, he’s been handed his share of challenges. However, his bond with Special Agent Sam Hanna has put work as a priority and he’s doing the best he can.

Hetty runs NCIS: Los Angeles with charm

Hetty seems to be a bit more relaxed. After ferreting out the mole and getting back to her job the season, she’s quite charming. Losing Assistant Director Owen Granger, who viewers find out is a substantial part of Hetty’s back story, has been a tough pill to swallow for the Director. Always offering up a surprise, Hetty almost lost her position this season. She almost lost some of her best agents too. However, she is as solid as a rock and viewers admire her tenacity.

As viewers wrap up the end of the NCIS: Los Angeles season finale, they will hopefully walk away feeling satisfied. The actors, crew and cast have done an amazing job sharing stories with the TV audience all within the backdrop of Los Angeles. It’s been a fulfilling season that brought viewers and characters closer together than ever before. In fact, so close that viewers can hardly wait to see what happens next season!
