Doctor Who season 10: Steven Moffat reflects; an episode 4 introduction

Steven Moffat

We’ve got a couple of different stories to know about Doctor Who season 10 episode 4 prior to it airing, but we’re going to start with something more general.

Specifically, we are talking about Steven Moffat reflecting about the show in general, and one of the things that he really wanted to do was get Christopher Eccleston back on the show. Eccleston was the ninth doctor, and he was sensational on the show. Unfortunately, he only did the role for the season, and other than a few cameos here and there as Nine away from the show, he hasn’t appeared on the show since his departure.

Specifically, Moffat references to Empire Magazine that one of his regrets was not being able to convince the current star of The Leftovers back for “The Day of the Doctor,” the 50th anniversary special that featured other Doctors such as David Tennant and Matt Smith, to go along with a special appearance from the late John Hurt as the War Doctor:

“I was sad we couldn’t get Christopher Eccleston back … Although he was a complete gentleman about it and, on the other hand, we got John [Hurt], so it’s hard to regard it as a complete loss.”

Now, let’s preview Doctor Who season 10 episode 4

This episode is called “Knock Knock,” and one of the things that we do love about it right away is that there is such a super-scary element to it right away. Peter Capaldi introduces it as a story all about student housing, and as someone who went to university, let’s just say that there is no grater scare at the moment than dealing with student housing. Bill is looking for a new place to live, and we figure that as a result of that, there is going to be giving you some spooky, crazy monster stuff. Think of this as American Horror Story: Murder house in the style of Doctor Who; sometimes, shows don’t have to be complicated. Really, all you need to do sometimes is focus on telling a good haunted-house story and you’re going to make people happy.

As a reminder, is there any show out there more underrated when it comes to Halloween watchability than Doctor Who?
