The Blacklist season 4 episode 20 spoilers: Megan Boone’s Liz vs. a Debt Collector
This is one of those occasions where before we continue, we really should go ahead and share some further details.
The Blacklist season 4 episode 20 synopsis – “When Liz (Megan Boone) becomes the target of a mercenary known as the Debt Collector, Red (James Spader) turns to an unlikely source for help. Meanwhile, Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) faces an unexpected complication in his efforts to stay ahead of Agent Gale’s (Enrique Murciano) investigation.”
There are two different questions in the aftermath of reading this that we’re left to ponder.
1. Who wants to kill Liz? – Given that protecting Liz has been the proposed endgame of Mr. Kaplan for the majority of the series’ run so far, it doesn’t make sense for her to hire a mercenary unless this is that odd mercenary whose job is to not kill people. Nonetheless, it does seem odd that there would be some new villain so late in the season unconnected to the Big Bad in some way.
2. Who does Reddington need help from? – The two answers that would be the most curious are A) Mr. Kaplan, given everything that he’s been through with her already and B) someone on the FBI Task Force. He’s not ashamed to try to pick and choose help from the latter here and there when he needs it, but we know that he likes to operate things on his own. (Update: The promo reveals that he’s going to try and ask Mr. Kaplan for help.)
Beyond this episode, there are two complicated episodes to wrap up the season — “Mr. Kaplan” and then “Mr. Kaplan: Conclusion.” The title gives you a pretty darn indication of what the main focus is going to be for the hour.
