Scorpion season 3 episode 23 review: Walter tells Paige ‘I love you’

We don’t think the title for this Scorpion season 3 episode 23 review is all that big of a spoiler, mostly because it’s been out there. We know thanks to promos that Walter was going to tell Paige that he loves her at some point on Monday night’s “Something Borrowed, Something Blew.” The big mystery was how it came about.

Let’s start by picking up with where things world for Paige following being fired by Walter and sent someone where. She received a higher salary and an assistant there, it was enough to keep her so busy that it was a rather great distraction from her former team members. She was understandably angry at Walter, but she took it out on the entire team by cutting them off. To make matters worse for Walter, Ralph was infuriated at him for being so cowardly — the kid may be young, but he is insightful and he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to Walter and Paige.

Here’s the thing about this episode — it was very much like every other procedural wedding episode ever given the fact that the first 45 minutes or so were more about the case of the week and a little less about the wedding. The case was exciting enough given that it added stakes to whether or not the wedding would happen, but we were mostly waiting to get to that point.

Luckily, it did by the end of the hour. Paige managed to get together a ceremony at the last second to apologize for being so distant, and Happy had Cabe walk her down the makeshift aisle. The officiant calling Toby “Tony Curtis” was great, and the vows were a straight kick RIGHT IN THE FEELS. Pretty perfect, really.

Then, the confession

During a dance with Paige after the ceremony (and after Walter confessed to Ralph that he was being a coward when it comes to his mother), we finally had him coming clean. Walter ended up revealing that he was in love with her. We didn’t know how she would react given what he did firing her and upsetting her life, but she admitted that her feelings for him were exactly the same!

We don’t know what the future holds for the two parties, but them getting caught making out was a really funny end to the episode — plus the reveal that there was a mission in Tahiti that amounted as a free honeymoon for Happy and Toby.

Here’s your cliffhanger — the plane is crashing on the way to said honeymoon, which is clearly not going according to plan.

Overall

We do think that the show didn’t need a case this week and could’ve focused more on the wedding. It was sweet, funny, and heartfelt — a perfect testimony to the Happy – Toby relationship. Also, this was the Walter – Paige moment that so many people have been waiting for. It was no dream! No hallucination! Just a really fun, happy episode. Grade: A-.
