Outlander notes: The Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Diana Gabaldon edition

Outlander notes

Today’s Outlander notes take you somewhat away from the show itself, but do still feature Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, and Diana Gabaldon.

In kicking things off, we want to kick this off with a tune-in reminder for those who are Amazon Prime subscribers in America: Catastrophe is now available for streaming! Tobias is going to be returning over the course of the season in his role as Dr. Harries, and this of course brings us some excitement. Given that so much we know him for, whether it be Black Jack Randall or a member of House Tully on Game of Thrones, is so serious and dark, we like that there is this venue out there for him to show a different side. Also, it feels like we haven’t written about Menzies in a while, and that is a shame since his work is rather exemplary. It’s hard to imagine Outlander without much of his work as Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall.

Side stories – Now that we’ve not all of that, this does seem like the proper segue into the Gabaldon portion of the program. When asked on Twitter about some of the standalone stories that she’d love to write, and the name Frank Randall came up alongside Master Raymond.

From a TV perspective we know that Starz has an interest in sticking with the main Outlander, but we do wonder if down the road they’d be interested in adapting some of Gabaldon’s other work, even just as 4-6 episode standalone series either as a compliment to the main show or after the fact.. We presume that it’s possible given the enormous attention and subscriber base this show offers them. It’s something to ponder over, and you can absolutely share some of your thoughts on the subject below.

As noted on social media, maybe Gabaldon’s joking about Frank … we’re not the best in terms of emoji-humor detection. Still, we’d want to see it.

Finally, support Sam Heughan – Sam is in the final two of the Alpha Male Madness tournament over on E! Online, so if you’re so inclined, you can vote for him by heading over to this link. He’s up against Bob Morley of The 100another fine actor from a show with a devoted following. Seeing these fan bases over the years, it’s no shock to us that these two ended up in the final two.
