America’s Got Talent: Chris Hardwick to guest judge

Chris Hardwick

We don’t know how we could be more excited about this — Chris Hardwick and America’s Got Talent joining forces in epic fashion. We’ve got one of our favorite comedians meeting up in turn with one of our favorite talent competitions. It’s fun, it’s lighthearted, and we do love the spirit of variety that goes along with it.

In a new post on Instagram, Hardwick himself was the one to confirm the fantastic news with a photo of him alongside the other judges (Mel B, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Simon Cowell) and then new host Tyra Banks. He says that he’s a guest judge, so unless the show is doing something different this season in the format, he is going to be taking part in the Judge Cuts stage of the competition. This is where some of the acts who make it through the audition stage have a chance to come back again to compete for spots in the live shows. Hardwick may have a chance to push the Golden Buzzer, which of course is exciting as someone with an unhealthy obsession with watching Golden Buzzer videos to the point where we’ve done it many more times than we can possibly count. (For franchise newbies, the Golden Buzzer automatically sends an act to the live shows.)

The biggest coup here of all may have been finding time in Hardwick’s schedule for this given that he hosts already The Wall for NBC, plus @midnight on Comedy Central and Talking with Chris Hardwick over on AMC. Sure, he also has Talking Dead, but that show’s in hiatus for the time being.

We admit that we’re biased about this as a longtime Nerdist Podcast listener and someone who’s watched every episode of AGT and covered it professionally since 2009 … but we’re excited about this. It should be a lot of fun, and we’re stoked for the show to help kick off the summer when it premieres.
