Agents of SHIELD season 4 episode 19: Aida’s goal; a Bill Paxton tribute

Tonight’s Agents of SHIELD episode did not contain the shocker that we had last week with the Patriot; still, there was a Bill Paxton tribute that was short but very sweet.

It was just a brief moment, but if you were watching within the Framework you likely saw a brief video tribute to one John Garrett, the character who Paxton played in the first season of the show. While this was technically an alternate-universe version, we love that the writers found a way to include this. Paxton was a legendary actor, and the sort of guy any person within the business would love to work with. Even if this was just a brief moment within the episode, it was still something to smile about.

This may be the moment that we carry with us for the longest time after the episode, but there were certainly some other notable highlights…

Aida’s goal revealed – After spending so much time over the course of the season plotting and trying to determine her ideal endgame, we finally figured it out by the end of the episode — she’s almost the robot version of Pinocchio, trying to become a real person. The entire construction of the Framework was meant for the development of human tissue much so that she can become Madame Hydra … oh, and she wants to be able to murder all of the SHIELD agents and go against her directive. It’s hard to do that when you are considered to be a creation.

There is still a hope of stopping her courtesy of Daisy and Jemma, but that will not be easy. The best thing about this reveal, and the story as a whole, is that if you go back to the start of the season, it’s almost impossible to formulate a situation where we see the story end in this sort of crazy way. It was completely bonkers, but also the best kind of bonkers and that is precisely why we enjoy where the story is going. If the series finale is coming sooner rather than later, you at least know that the series is wrapping things up on a reasonably high note.
