NCIS: New Orleans season 3, episode 20 review: Agent Pride’s team stops recycling drug ring

NCIS: New Orleans season 3 episode 20 review

On Tuesday night on NCIS: New Orleans Agent Pride continues to look for a connection between the New Orleans Mayor and organized crime. The NCIS team grabs a new case when an New Orleans Police Department officer is shot and a suspect killed after a drug bust goes bad.

The action kicked off almost immediately for the viewers. It was only seconds into the show before there was shooting and questions were swirling on how illegal drugs were impacting the streets of New Orleans. The big twist? The international drug ring was dealing recycling drugs seized from the New Orleans Police Department.

The moment that Agent Pride’s team took the case, viewers knew somehow the mayor had to be related. Special Agent Christopher Lasalle also had a personal angle. Looking at his former squad, the vice squad, the agent had to deal with the possibility that his training officer or someone in the unit was responsible for selling the drugs. The transfer of the drugs to be destroyed was faked and the group of suspects came down to only a few cops on the force. Running down the leads, the team came close to an explanation, but the clues from Agent Gregorio and Agent Lund is what sealed the deal.

Stuck in the middle of the ocean searching a ship, Gregorio and Lund were busy looking for the alleged drugs being smuggled out of the country. Finding the crate empty, Agent Lund suggested they search the recycling and trash areas. The drugs could be dumped before they reach the Panama Canal. One clue leads to another and a barrel of drugs, all from the New Orleans Police Department, is found along with one of the bad guys. After a brief take down by Agent Lund, the criminal talks and details emerge of who really is part of the scheme. However, no connection to the mayor has been found yet.

While the NCIS agents focus on the case, Agent Pride has a blooming relationship. ADA and Reserve Navy CDR JAG Corps Rita Devereaux has caught Pride’s eye and she is doing some investigation of her own. Looking into why properties in the Clearwater neighborhood are being bought at rock-bottom prices (and the locals run off), there is a connection to Pride’s current case. She doesn’t get too far with her investigation before she is run off the road. Realizing she is a target and since she can’t get Pride’s full attention, she decides to take a job in Washington. This left Agent Pride with a chance to focus on catching the mayor while solving crimes in New Orleans.

Watching the program tonight, we enjoyed seeing the emotional impact this case had on the team. Not only did Agent Lund kick butt when he needed to most, Agent Lasalle had to admit he grew up too when he was investigating former colleagues. Each of the characters are fully developing into their prime while still solving crimes. Episode grade: A-.
