When would Shadowhunters season 3 start filming, if renewed?

For all Shadowhunters fans out there, we know that this is a tricky time waiting for news on a season 3 renewal. Heck, we know that waiting for season 2 to return is bad enough!

Unfortunately, at present it’s hard to hand down any more information regarding whether or not the show will be renewed. Most of what we’ve explained on the subject we’ve already handed down, including a little bit more information regarding the impact of social media and the impressions there. We do think that it absolutely helps the show that it is very much popular on social media, but the most important thing remains live viewers. If you love the show, be sure to watch it live when it returns! Sure, advertisements may be frustrating, but TV is a business. They help to keep the show on the air.

Let’s get back now to the question within the title, which is when we could see a potential Shadowhunters season 3 start filming. Last year, production started in the late summer, which means that it’s still a few months away. However, another thing to consider here is that there does need to be a couple of months before that at least for the writers to start up work on the next batch of scripts. With that, we’d timeline out here that the show could probably use a renewal within the next couple of months to keep things on schedule.

Do things like the recent GLAAD Award win help? We absolutely think so, especially in this time in which we like to celebrate diversion and inclusion. In general, the biggest thing that we can say is that if you love Shadowhunters, continue to watch it, discuss it, and make sure everyone that you know is aware of it! This is really a show whose success is based on part on awareness, and we do still think that there are millions of non-book readers out there who may enjoy the show, but simply aren’t that aware of it just yet. This is where the ball is in the court of the existing base.
