The Originals season 4 episode 2: Is Klaus free?

Is Klaus free

On The Originals season 4 episode 2 on Friday night, there was one question that stood out as more important than almost any other: Is Klaus free? Did Elijah, Hayley, and the rest of the Mikaelsons find a way to get him back with the family he occasionally loves?

There were many components to this plan, and one of them was of course making a diversion. This is why a good percentage of this episode was spent watching both Kol and Rebekah doing their part in order to ensure that they messed around with Marcel a little bit. Within that, Rebekah found another way to get herself in a lot of pain — arrows. Luckily, Kol was able to bail her out of one particularly hairy situation.

The good news is that said diversion worked! Eventually, Klaus was freed from his prison — there was one silver lining in that we had an opportunity to see in here the return of Leah Pipes, who turned to him in a dream sequence. Klaus got himself a little bit of therapy, and that helped him to reconcile that there may have been a different way when he was back. He was now a father, and he had spent five years suffering and separated from some of the people that he loved.

Marcel had an opportunity to kill all of them even still after Klaus returned, but he opted not to. He tried to create the argument that he was doing so out of mercy, that he was different from the Mikaelsons and was not out to create the same sort of violence or chaos that the family would. Maybe this was all pandering, or maybe it was truth. Either way, the family got a chance to live another day, which is something we suppose that they should celebrate. Meanwhile, Marcel still gets a chance to celebrate that he still owns the city of New Orleans, and he still has his pride. We’ll just have to see how long that lasts.

As for the story of Klaus, the episode ended with Hayley bringing him back to Hope, and him getting a chance to see her for the first time in years. His body is free, and in seeing her, maybe a certain part of his soul was, as well. This certainly made for a touching end to the hour.
