NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 renewal: What happens next?

Earlier today, the good news was handed down regarding NCIS: Los Angeles and many other shows: It’s been renewed for an eighth season! There’s no longer any reason to worry about the show’s future, though we’re not sure there ever was that big of a reason in the first place. Just remember for a moment or two here that the show experienced a nice little ratings bump in its move to Sunday night, where it’s brought some further stability to that timeslot.

As we now start to look towards season 9, here are a few different things that we see the show starting to keep in mind.

1. A new member? – In the wake of Miguel Ferrer’s passing, it would not surprise us if the show decided to add a new series regular to the cast. Also, it would not surprise us if that person is Bar Paly based on how much of Anna we’ve seen over the season.

2. A Kensi / Deeks wedding – We like to think that the moment comes this season where they have the dream proposal they’ve been hoping for. After that, they can start to plan for a big ceremony.

3. A new Big Bad – We really enjoyed how all-in the show went when it came to the mole storyline, even if the end of it fizzled more than we thought that it would. The writers showed a fearlessness in devising that story that we really hope they continue to highlight elsewhere.

4. Crossovers! – There’s a lot of potential here. Not only are there the two other editions of the NCIS franchise, but you also have simultaneously everything out in Scorpion, which is set roughly in the same area, and then also Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver. Don’t forget that CBS is also developing a Navy SEAL drama, and if that’s picked up, it feels like a natural fit to be a part of this universe. The network needs these big events to get people watching live, and with there being 24 episodes a season, we’re sure that some people wouldn’t mind having a big event like this even if they don’t watch all of the shows involved.
