Grey’s Anatomy season 13 episode 17 sneak peek: Owen confronts Amelia
The latest setback comes courtesy of Amelia leaving home, which comes after Owen putting some pressure on her to adapt to what was clearly a way of living that she wasn’t prepared to handle. The thing about being a doctor is that you have to have a different bedside manner with almost everyone, and with Amelia, this is not something that Owen was prepared to handle. He hasn’t quite figured out the right way to communicate with his wife, and this is the latent source of the tension between the two parties here. They have quite a bit still to figure out, and they are not at the point just yet where they’ve been able to resolve many of their issues.
It’s going to be rather difficult to know one way or another for these characters to figure out the right way to move forward into the future, so it’s probably best that they don’t focus on that too hard right now. With them being in the current state in which they are, the right move would just be to take things one conversation at a time. For Owen, he should convince her to come home, and then from there try to figure out a way for the two of them to slowly talk about some of the ways they can improve their marriage. Don’t force the issue, and at the same time also don’t push too hard and make the marriage into something where his perspective can be seen as the only one.
Meanwhile, for Amelia she needs to figure out a proper way in which she can listen to her husband, understand his impulses, and find a way to resolve them. It’s understandable why she would run from the situation — she’s been through a lot — but if she does want to be married to him in the end, communication is the way to make that happen.
