This Is Us season 2: What’s coming for Randall and Beth now?

The season 1 finale for This Is Us contained a big moment for Randall and Beth, so what comes next? Well, this is something that will probably be discussed for much of the net few months, but we’re meant to take Randall’s decision about adoption literally. After losing his biological father William and thinking through his own journey, he’s starting to think more and more about his own future … and how he’d like it to include an adopted child of his own.

The cast and producers of the NBC series were at PaleyFest yesterday to reflect on the epic first season, and while there Sterling K. Brown said the following (per TVLine) about the moment where he talked to Beth in the finale:

“It’s clearly the beginning of a conversation between a husband and wife. It’s something that’s on his heart, when he reflects on the loss of William… and the gift he had being raised as a Pearson. He wants to bring it full-circle.”

We figure that this is a conversation that will pick up in season 2, and there are several ways to look at this. It’s certainly possible that Randall and Beth end up going through with the adoption, or maybe you argue that the comment made here was one that was made too much in passing by Randall because of how he felt in the moment. He meant it, but will that change? We don’t think so, but it’s something to consider given that in life, we often do make decisions in part based on emotion and also timing.

The second season of This Is Us is going to be premiere on NBC this fall, but for now, the cast is going to have a chance to all kick back and relax for a little while. Given how much that they’ve brought to this show, they’ve earned that break. We figure that you have to get yourself into a place to take on some of these heartbreaking stories again. We still will argue that Milo Ventimiglia is the actor in the strangest position, given that he’s only in one of the two timeslots, and once we know exactly how Jack died, then so much of the mystery surrounding his life is over. (We are pretty sure that the writers behind the scenes have much of this figured out already, including the timing of the reveal.)
