Tyra Banks new America’s Got Talent host, replacing Nick Cannon
Specifically, show judge Howie Mandel confirmed in a new post on Twitter that you will get a chance to see none other than former America’s Next Top Model host Tyra Banks in the position. It’s a very different choice for the show as a host, but an intriguing one. This is the first female host in the history of the show, and she is someone who has a great deal of hosting experience — but not as much in the live format. She recently appeared on another NBC show in The Celebrity Apprentice, where she was an adviser to Arnold Schwarzenegger on a couple of different tasks.
Will we miss Cannon? Absolutely, since he did bring a lot of energy to the show and seemed willing to have a lot of fun with the contestants. It’ll be fun to see if Tyra’s really willing to get in there and be as silly as Nick was at times — though we feel more than confident that this will be the case.
If you have missed the headlines somehow over the past few weeks, what happened here is that Cannon decided to depart the show after some controversy regarding some remarks he made in a stand-up special. He felt disrespected in comparison to many other talent-show hosts, and though it best that he find another job elsewhere. Given that this is a show that has navigated some other turmoil over the year, including several different hosts (remember when Regis Philbin hosted the first season?) and also different judges, it will probably be fine. It probably was important to get a known host on the show, just to further ensure that there are as many different reasons as possible for people to watch. This is the #1 summer show on NBC, and its ratings were incredible in particular with Simon Cowell.
New episodes of America’s Got Talent will start airing a little later this summer. This news comes prior to the start of auditions filming over the course of the coming weeks.
