Big Brother Canada 5: William Laprise Desbiens pre-game interview (exclusive)

William Laprise Desbiens pre-game interview -

One of the great things about Big Brother Canada in particular is that they always manage to bring such a different and unique group of people to the show. While we’ve had people from Quebec on the show before, there’s something about William Laprise Desbiens that’s a little different. He’s a French Canadian who speaks English as a second language, and the 23-year old marketing student from Trois-Rivieres may have to overcome a language barrier (he has a fairly heavy accent) in order to communicate.

In this William Laprise Desbiens pre-game interview, what you will also get a sense of is that he’s a pretty big fan of the show, and he may be able to use that, plus a focus on collecting information in the house, to his advantage … maybe so much so that any language issues will not matter.

CarterMatt – What made you want to try out for Big Brother Canada?

William Laprise Desbiens – I’ve been watching since the first season of Big Brother Canada, and I fell in love with the show. So that’s when I decided to be [a part of it].

If you could compare yourself to someone from Big Brother Canada or Big Brother US, who would it be?

Oh boy … I always hate this question because I always want to just be like myself. But, maybe Cassandra? She’s such a great player and she has a great personality. She was so sassy and she was a little bit of a weirdo, but at the same time she was a lot like me.

What’s something about you that would surprise people?

I would like to say it’s that I’m French, but I think that’s obvious so it’s not that surprising (laughs). Besides that, I don’t really know.

Do you have a specific strategy entering the house?

Oh sure. I would like get as much information as I can from everyone, and keep it to myself and use it to my advantage. I’ll analyze everyone and be really nice, but at the end I want to win. I’ll be sneaky [if I need to].

How are you going to implement that strategy?

I’m going to try and have a lot of friends in the house. Not too much, because I don’t want to look like the sort of person who is in every alliance, but I want to have a lot of friends and get a lot of information to help in my game.

What do you think your biggest weakness could be?

I think it would maybe be my first language. I love my first language, but I may get confused because [English] is not my first language. I may miss some things, but I hope that I can improve a lot and my English can always be on point, but I think it’s going to be my weakness.

Is there anything that you’re nervous about entering the house?

I’m not scared — I’m really excited to get in the house.

Other than winning the money, what’s the one thing you’re hoping to get out of this experience? Are you hoping for fame, romance, or just a good experience?

If I was to say I didn’t want fame, that would be a lie — but, I know that’s not [the objective] of the show. Who wouldn’t want their 15 minutes?

Our snap judgment

William seems like a cool guy, and we’re really pleased that there’s some French Canadian representation on the show this season. His language barrier shouldn’t be too huge of a deterrent in the early going, but this is a cutthroat game and we do unfortunately think that at some point, people could exploit a miscommunication or two for strategic gain. His ceiling is probably the middle portion of the game.
