Mondasian Cybermen returning for Doctor Who season 10 finale
Bust out the history books: The Mondasian Cybermen are returning to Doctor Who for the first time in over half a century for the season 10 finale.
The BBC confirmed this glorious news recently, and the image above should serve as all of the proof you need that it’s happening. These Cybermen hail from the planet Mondas, and per a recent statement from the show’s official site, they are the favorite enemy of series star Peter Capaldi. Specifically, these characters will be in both episodes 11 and 12 of this season, which will help pave the way for the upcoming Christmas Special. This serves as the final episode both for Capaldi as The Doctor and also for executive producer Steven Moffat. Clearly, both parties want to leave the show in as spectacular a fashion as possible.
Personally, we have to say that the Cybermen look really great in the age! What we’ve always loved about Doctor Who as a series is that there is a certain willingness to really put the time and the effort into costumes and makeup. So many other shows out there would really go into overdrive trying to create CGI characters, and from our estimation, these characters never look quite as good. Even if they are visually stunning, there’s something about having the actual characters in the room with you that amplifies the fear and makes the experience all the more organic for some of the actually people taking part in the scene.
In addition to himself, Matt Lucas as Nradole, and Pearl Mackie as the new Companion Bill, the final episodes of the season will also feature the return of Michelle Gomez as Missy a.k.a. The Master, another one of The Doctor’s most-feared foes. These episodes were written by Steven Moffat and directed by Rachel Talalay, and are currently being filmed in Cardiff, which is the typically home of the series. The new season is going to be coming your way on Saturday, April 15, both on BBC One in Great Britain and BBC America for those of you watching stateside.
