Outlander notes: Saturn Awards nods; Sam Heughan’s Stranger Things meeting

Outlander - Saturn Awards -

There are a couple of different stories to touch on today, but let’s begin with the Outlander – Saturn Awards nominations! This continues the recent string of nominations for the Starz series, especially in the aftermath of a huge People’s Choice Awards win that was handled terribly by CBS, who chose to exclude it from the broadcast. (No need to get too far down that rabbit hole today — we’ve already talked about it, and fans of the show know that they won.)

With the Saturn Awards, the series was nominated for Best Fantasy Television Series, and to go along with that both Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe were given a nod for their acting work. The same goes for Dominique Pinon, who played Master Raymond on the series. (Side note: We love Jeffrey Dean Morgan and all, but isn’t he a series regular for The Walking Dead? That guest nod feels a tad curious)

The awards will be taking place in Burbank on June 28. For more information, all you need to do is visit the link here. For those wondering, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story leads with 11 nominations, while The Walking Dead leads all TV shows with seven. The show routinely recognizes some of the best in genre programming — think science fiction, fantasy, horror, superhero shows, and much more.

In addition to Outlander, one of the other big nominees this time around is Netflix’s Stranger Things. This in turn brings us to our next story, which is Heughan getting to meet Millie Bobby Brown! Earlier today, the actor posted on Twitter a photo that he took with the young actress from Emerald City Comic-Con. Following the panel yesterday (read more about that over here), Sam and Caitriona are getting a chance to meet many fans prior to them taking off for South Africa, where they will be stationed for the next few months as filming resumes for the series.

We know that Sam is a big Stranger Things fan, so this for him may be the equivalent of other people getting the chance to meet him in person! For the record, we though about casting Sam in Stranger Things when we did a recent article about some of the perfect roles he could play on other shows. If you’ve got a good idea, share in the comments.
