TV Bromances: Why, Scott, Stiles of Teen Wolf are among the strongest
Mrs. Carter: What makes a good bromance, and what makes Scott and Stiles of Teen Wolf near the top of the list?
We like to think that there are a wide array of different reasons why these two make such a great team, but we’ll be the first to admit some irony here. This is an article written about their bromance at a time when it’s barely been onscreen. Due to Dylan O’Brien’s commitments and recovery, Stiles was gone for chunks of season 6A, and it wasn’t until near the thing things changed.
Yet, in some ways absence makes the heart grow fonder. Have you ever heard that phrase? It’s absolutely true here, since not having Stiles in the mix changed the group and reminded us why the character works.
For starters, he’s such a gamut of emotions. He can be one of the funnier, snarkier members of the pack, but he also feels more than anyone during hardships. He can be devastated, heartbroken, and passionate. He’s not a sidekick by any means; he’s more of the yin to Scott’s yang. When the two are working together, they can take on far more in Beacon Hills than they ever can apart. One of the sadder times of the show was when the two were in conflict and didn’t want much to do with each other.
Where can Scott and Stiles go from here?
The biggest priority for Teen Wolf as we move into the final stage of the show is that it should work harder than ever to emphasize every relationship. That includes the romantic ones, but you cannot in the process forget about the friendships. Without each other, the guys wouldn’t be where they are after high school. Give them a nice reunion, and some opportunities to work together where Stiles can be funny and Scott can grapple with his leadership position.
Also, give the two of them an ending where they can remain friends long after the end credits. No more fighting! Alas, the bummer is that you will still have to wait until summer to see whatever the show decides to do with the two of them. (For more premiere-date speculation, head over to this link.)
