TV Bachelors: Can (any) Harrison Wells on ‘The Flash’ get a date?

HR -Mrs. Carter: It’s a tale of many Wells — all of them unlucky in love.

Throughout the past week or so we’ve discussed many different single TV characters who could use a little love in our TV Bachelors series, but we’re not sure that any of them are as complicated as the situation for one Harrison Wells on “The Flash.” We supposed there’s a certain degree of tragedy that many of them have went through in terms of their pasts, but whether it be with the Earth-2 Harry (who we’re seeing again on Tuesday’s “Escape from Gorilla City”) or H.R. back currently on Earth-1, there is one thing that they have in common: They’re single.

For the sake of this article, we’re going to focus mostly on H.R. because he’s the version of the character we’re seeing the most prominently, and he’s also the person most in need of some romance just for the sake of not driving any of the other characters on the show insane.

Who would be the right love interest? – Interestingly, Caitlin Snow’s mother would actually be interesting given that she’s pretty much the opposite of him in every single way — he needs someone super-grounded, reasonably serious, but with some sort of soft heart underneath all of that. You’re not going to change H.R. to be anything other than an over-ambitious writer with serious publicist notes, so the best thing that you can do is channel some of that energy and apply it to things that are useful. Having him fall for a meta-human could be somewhat fun, especially if it’s someone who lies within a little bit of a moral gray area. That would bring back the whole “can we trust Wells” question that’s been there for almost the entire series.

Now that we’ve said that, we do want to see him happy and therefore don’t want to see him be with someone who’s going to actively smash his heart into pieces. Are you going to tell us that H.R. planning a wedding wouldn’t be fun?

Will it happen? – Probably not this season. This is the biggest problem for this character in that we get a different reinvention of him every different season. That means that every time, we’ve got to get to know someone new, and that makes it a little bit difficult to then find someone for him to be with, knowing full well that this said someone’s probably only going to be around for a little while.

In the event that H.R. is not some flash-in-the-pan / one-and-done hero, how about getting to see a love interest next season? It could be a fun way in order to spice up the character a little bit.

Do you think that H.R. should find a date sooner rather than later, for his own sake, let alone the sake of others? Share some of your thoughts on that subject below! Meanwhile, be sure to head over here to score some further news right now when it comes to “The Flash.” (Photo: The CW.)
