Will ‘Gotham’ season 3 join ‘Lucifer’ with a renewal soon?

Gotham -Earlier this month, there was some news announced by Fox that you were going to see more of “Lucifer” coming on the air — specifically, we mean that in the terms of a third season! New episodes of the series starring Tom Ellis will premiere presumably in the fall, and that is after we get a chance to digest the remainder of the second season starting when it returns in May. (Yes, that is a horribly long period of time to wait, but that’s a subject for another article for another time.)

What we’re wondering now refers mostly to the show’s timeslot companion in “Gotham,” a show that is unfortunately off the show until April — but also one that could be very much hoping for another season of its own. Remember what the executive producers have already promised for it if the show comes back: Some sort of Harley Quinn origin story. If that isn’t something that you want, it probably puts you in the minority of the viewers who watch the show.

Looking at the ratings – When discussing whether or not the show should come back, this has to be one of the first thing that you look at. Episodes to date are averaging a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic — we’re not going to sit here and proclaim these to be earth-shattering numbers by any means, mostly because they’re not. Yet, if they are good enough for one show, why not for the other?

Well, there may be a few different factors at play here, starting with the simple fact that the two shows don’t necessarily cost the exact same. One is based on a lesser-known comic property, and the other is based on Batman. We can’t imagine Batman comes cheap. Also, it’s filmed in New York City, and it has a cast that is build up of around 200 or so people (slight exaggeration).

Will the news come out soon? – We think so — even in spite of some of the factors we just mentioned, the biggest thing that you do have to remember here is that Fox isn’t exactly in a position where all of their shows are generating the biggest ratings in human history. They’ve got a number of shows faring worse, and by comparison “Gotham” may look like something closer to a sure thing for years to come. That’s why there may be some value to keeping it, at least for one more year to see if the ratings stay relatively level. A few years ago, getting a 1.1 would probably get you canceled; now, this is slowly becoming the new norm.

What’s your take on this: Are we going to see “Gotham” get renewed soon to go along with “Lucifer”? Share some of your thoughts below, and head over here to get some further news right now when it comes to the show. (Photo: Fox.)
