‘The X Factor’ UK winner Matt Terry hasn’t spoken to Simon Cowell since win — why that’s more than okay

Matt Terry -

There’s always a good bit of buzz in the British press when it comes to just about ANYTHING in terms of the British “X Factor” — therefore, can you really be that shocked about the new deluge of stories pertaining to Matt Terry and Simon Cowell? We don’t quite think so.

However, the idea of the two parties not speaking since the end of this past season really cannot be all THAT surprising, and there are some specific reasons for it. Before diving too deep into that, let’s start with what Matt had to say on the subject to Reveal, i.e. the quote that started all of the spiraling of gossip in the first place:

“We haven’t spoken at all. He always said if I ever needed him, I could speak to him … He’s a lovely guy. He gave me this amazing opportunity so I’ll always be grateful to him.”

If Matt was signed over on Simon’s Syco label, this would be a much bigger deal and a good reason for some rampant paranoia to float around the internet. As it is, however, this is really not much of a deal at all. After the show, Matt signed with a different imprint in Sony, one that has guided some similar careers such as that as Olly Murs. There isn’t any tension with Cowell over the signing (he wants him to be in the best position possible, since his success only helps the show), but Simon wasn’t his mentor on the series so there’s no real reason for the two to stay in touch. Matt’s busy recording his next album — meanwhile, Simon is preparing for both the British and American versions of the “Got Talent” franchise. Where do you find the time in here to sit down for a hot cup of tea? Doesn’t quite happen.

We’re sure at the very least the two will have a chance to say “hello” when Matt inevitably performs on the show a little bit later this year — they always tend to bring the reigning champs back on at least one occasion.
