Rosie O’Donnell won’t play Steve Bannon on ‘Saturday Night Live’

SNL -While Rosie O’Donnell and many other people may have wanted to see her take on Steve Bannon on an upcoming episode of “Saturday Night Live,” today we’re having to come in, most unfortunately, as the bearer of bad news: It’s not happening.

Why is that? This actually isn’t all that complicated. According to TMZ, Rosie herself says that the show isn’t going to be featuring her in the part despite her previous efforts to land it, and it seems to be their decision more so than her so.

As for whether or not this is the right move, the only good response we have to that is a simple “it’s complicated” for a wide array of different reasons, beginning with the fact that they technically already have a Bannon in Mikey Day, who plays the part in a way that can be best represented as the Grim Reaper meets Skeletor. While in some ways we could see the desire to want someone a little more tangible in the role beyond a guy hiding under a mask, this does make sense for a couple of different reasons.

1. It’s so much easier to make fun of Trump, the guy who is the face of the campaign, rather than someone in Bannon who is hiding behind the scenes.

2. This is the idea that the show already came up with, and it makes the most sense that the writers would stick with what they’ve got already. Given that they are in the midst of one of their biggest ratings renaissances in history, it’s hard to argue against anything that they’ve got going on at present.

The biggest disappointment that comes with not booking Rosie is that you know if the show was to go in that direction, they would cause much of the internet to explode, and cause Trump to have another meltdown on social-media over it.
