‘The Vampire Diaries’ series finale: First Nina Dobrev photo released!
The series finale of “The Vampire Diaries” is coming your way on The CW Friday, March 10, which is really not that far away when you think about it. There are only a few episodes still to come, but they include the most important one of all — the episode that is going to feature the return of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert. You can see the first photo of her below, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.
How do we know that we’re getting Elena? We suppose that technically, the photo below could be Katherine — we just presume that with all of the evidence that we’ve seen so far, most of the signs are pointing towards this being Dobrev’s primary character. It’s also the one who was there in the pilot, and the one who most people remain interested in seeing some resolution for.
As for how she is going to get it, that’s the biggest mystery given that in theory, she was not going to come back until Bonnie died. Either the characters found a way around this to get her back (hey, maybe Kai is coming back for a reason at this point), or the unthinkable happened to Bonnie. That would make this a moment that qualifies as bittersweet, to put it lightly.
In the end, we are happy to see what the return of Elena could mean in terms of some of the relationships, given that her, Damon, and Stefan were a part of a huge love triangle that defined the early part of the series’ run. We don’t want to see the show go back to that by any means, but it is always interesting to revisit some old themes and see more of where they are now. These characters have had time to grow over the past two years without Elena there; will she notice that growth, or will they revert back to their former selves the moment she shows up?
Nina is not the only returning character on the upcoming finale — you’ll also be seeing John (Daivd Anders), Jeremy (Stephen R. McQueen), and Jenna (Sara Canning) in some form.
