‘Code Black’ season 3: Should it be renewed, and will it be?

Code Black -

Tonight over on CBS, we saw the end of the second season for “Code Black” … and you have to wonder if this is potentially the end of the series as a whole.

While the show has delivered some consistent ratings for its second season, you also cannot deny that there is still something left to be desired. The numbers are down versus the first season of the show, and even though that may be the case for much of CBS, that’s not exactly a great endorsement to keep it around. It brought in Rob Lowe for some added star power, but even that did not do much in order to boost the ratings.

Do we think that the show should get renewed? There’s no question with that. This is a show that tells stories of medicine in a way that is trickier and grittier than anywhere else on television, and the fact that they are able to find so many extras week in and week out is astounding. There are also times we wonder how claustrophobic a show this is to film, just because the producers are recreating the crammed hospital environment as strongly as they are.

Much of the future for “Code Black,” at least at the moment, could be dictated on what CBS has coming up the remainder of the season, in addition with some new shows such as “Training Day” that have just come out. There is really not much of an incentive at all when it comes to the network making their decision on the show’s future now; they can wait until May to do so, and more than likely they will. That way, if they do decide to make the unfortunate decision to cancel the show, they can do so quietly and without as much fanfare.

What do you think: Should “Code Black” get a third season on the air? Share some of your thoughts now in the comments, and head over here in the event you want some further news when it comes to the show.

Once there is more to share on the subject of the future, we’ll have it for you here. (Photo: CBS.)
