‘Chicago Med’ season 2, episode 13 preview: Dr. Rhodes, Dr. Latham take a trip

Latham -Tonight, “Chicago Med” returned from a brief hiatus, and handed us an episode that gave us an opportunity to see more of how Dr. Latham and Dr. Reese worked through some of their recent hardships and decisions. Moving into next week’s new episode “Theseus’ Ship,” we’ll see the story continue to progress — and we’ll get to see some people leave the hospital in the process. We always find this an entertaining way in order to see someone out of their element, and it should prove all the more interesting when Dr. Latham is one of the people who is being thrown outside of his element.

Synopsis – “Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) convinces Dr. Latham (guest star Ato Essandoh) to join him for a medical trip out of town, which puts Latham’s personality issues to the test. Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) treats an 8 year-old cancer patient who wants to give up on his battle until she makes a surprise discovery. Elsewhere, an unhealthy woman with heart problems is brought in and doesn’t want to listen to doctors, much to the dismay of Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss). Meanwhile, Dr. Choi (Brian Tee), Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) and Dr. Reese (Rachel DiPillo) work on a complicated case involving a woman with a personality disorder. Will and Nina (guest star Patti Murin) work through their first relationship test.”

We recently interviewed Essandoh about this episode (and if you missed our interview with him you can check that out at the link here), and he made it clear that one of the things his character does best is function under a routine and in places that seem familiar. Without that around him, we could see things unfold in an interesting way. (He’s one of our favorite characters, so we hope that things turn out positively.)

As for Will and Nina, we knew that we were going to see some tests for the two of them coming up. Just remember for a minute that Will’s feelings towards Natalie have not exactly gone away over time, and we wonder if this could be a cause of tension between the two.
