‘The Leftovers’ season 3 teaser looks to the sky (video)
We just learned yesterday that the third and final season of “The Leftovers” is going to be premiering on HBO come Sunday, April 16 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. If that wasn’t enough to get you excited about the show, then how about checking out the first official preview?
There’s an effect that comes out of watching this preview that is reminiscent in so many ways to watching the theme song for the second season — the music is a distraction from the rather depressing world that is surrounding it. For a moment, you listen to that and you start to forget for a few seconds about the fact that we’re probably going to be seeing people get killed off or tormented in some way.
(Also, we’re relatively convinced that you can play the Beach Boys’ “Don’t Worry Baby” over almost anything and we’ll be lured into a false sense of security that what we’re seeing is actually pleasant and worthy of a smile or two.)
For most of the teaser, you’re left to wonder why so many different characters (including Justin Theroux’s Kevin Garvey, pictured above) are looking towards the sky. Then, it’s revealed that they are looking towards a message that reads “The End Is Near.” If that is not ominous to you, what is? It’s one of the most ominous messages possible. It’s just to be determined whether or not it’s something to actually worry about. (Does someone in the Guilty Remnant have a pilot’s license?)
As we’ve stated previously, the third season of “The Leftovers” is going to begin within Texas, but at some point along the way, we’re heading to Australia — an exciting proposition, mostly because there are so few American series that actually find themselves set there.
Given that there’s still almost three months between now and the season airing, we’re reasonably optimistic that there is going to be another teaser or two to come before the show comes back. Stay tuned!
