‘Supernatural’ star Jensen Ackles, creator Eric Kripke celebrate Dean Winchester’s birthday — we do the same
January 24 is an important day within the “Supernatural” universe — after all, it’s Dean Winchester’s birthday! Given that there are not all that many opportunities that we have in order to celebrate such a day for a fictional character (usually we don’t get specific days for it), we do like to think of this as especially significant.
Also, it’s fun to see both Jensen Ackles and the man who started it all in creator Eric Kripke get in on the excitement. Take a look at what the two parties had to say on the matter on Twitter below, which is especially sweet for Kripke given that it’s also the birthday of his wife. (As expected, there’s a specific reason that both Dean and Jessica Moore from the show were born on January 24 — it’s a tribute, and a rather lovely one.)
Of course, the only thing that would make this birthday a little bit sweeter is if the show was returning to The CW with new episodes tonight, but alas, you’ve got two more days to go until that happens on January 26.
What we do want to say about Dean in this article is that he’s one of our favorite TV characters for good reason. Kripke wrote him as a real unicorn, a strong tough-guy with a heart of gold and a crackerjack sense of humor. He’s the sort of guy who you’ve probably known at some point in your life, who is extremely loyal but also extremely guarded. He’s not afraid to speak his mind, even if doing so does occasionally get him into some bouts of trouble. He’ll do anything for his brother, and in that sense Dean is the brother that we all wish that we had. His heart is also so big that it’s amazing it even fits in his body.
Further praise has to go to Jensen for being the perfect person to breathe life into this character, and to embrace and celebrate the role in a way that few other actors do. Given that he’s about to go into his thirteenth year playing the character, you really get the sense that he cares deeply about the guy, and also about the fans who watch and follow his journey. Here’s to hoping for great things the remainder of season 12.
