Ratings: ‘Quantico’ returns with big gains; ‘Timeless’ even; ‘Supergirl’ down

In moving “Quantico” to Monday night, the implication for ABC was clear: They wanted to give the Priyanka Chopra series one last crack at having success. Instead of airing at a time that was killing it in the ratings, it now has one of the best lead-ins possible in “The Bachelor.”

The great news is that the lead-in helps. The bad news is that the show is not really performing any better than “Bachelor Live” or any other shows after “The Bachelor” have over the years. The series drew in total a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, a nice increase from the last episode on Sundays, but still not something strong enough to get out from being on the bubble. (For the record, “The Bachelor” was super-strong this week with a 2.4, so “Quantico” retained less than half of its lead-in’s audience.)

As for other news on the night…

CBS – A very good night for The Eye as a whole, given that “Kevin Can Wait” (1.7), “Man with a Plan” (1.6), and “2 Broke Girls” (1.7) continue to prove that they can care less what critics think about them. They’re still going to draw some solid numbers! Meanwhile, “Scorpion” improved to a 1.3 following a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory.”

NBC – “The Celebrity Apprentice” (1.0) continues to struggle, probably just because it’s impossible to know who its audience is. Liberals don’t want to support a show executive-produced by Donald Trump, while conservatives probably are following Trump’s lead when he mocked it earlier in the year.

As for “Timeless,” it posted the same 0.9 rating as the week before. Unfortunately, the extensive campaign the save the show to date has not led to any big ratings gains.

Fox – Both “Gotham” and “Lucifer” posted a 1.2, and that was an improvement for the latter show. We know that neither one of these series is pulled in “hit” numbers, but we do think that both are going to come back based on what their ratings are at the moment.

The CW – Finally, “Supergirl” slipped hard to a 0.8 for its first episode of the new year. This rating is probably a tad misleading, mostly because of the fact that its last episode was billed as a “crossover” (even when it really wasn’t), and the show had a temporary bump because of that.
