NBC’s ‘Timeless’ creator helps rally fans towards season 2 renewal; read his suggestions

Timeless -Timeless” should be renewed for a second season. We’re throwing it out there, and we’ll do whatever that we can in order to help make that happen.

Earlier this week, we published the latest entry in our Ratings Bubble Report series, one explaining how the show has fared so far, and also why NBC should put in the time and investment to give it another run in the 2017-18 season. The quick version is that this is a fun, inspiring, and action-packed show that can rally people together for some fun escapism. It has great actors, and it actually teaches you something about history at the same time. We’re no history buff by any means, but we like to consider ourselves reasonably well-educated and there are still some things that we’ve legitimately learned over the course of the series so far. It’s been fun to dive into all of that, and it’s easy to root for a show that we legitimately enjoy. (We never root against a show, to be fair, as long as it’s bringing some essence of good in the world.)

In the post on Twitter earlier this week (see below), co-creator / executive producer Eric Kripke made it clear precisely what fans can do in order to help ensure that the show stays safe — and also how much of it can be done right now. The reality here still is that this is a business where numbers make sense more than anything, so watching live is really the best way to ensure that the powers-that-be take note of what you are doing. These viewers help to monetize the show because this is when advertisements air, so if you’re recording this and watching another show live, maybe do your best to switch that around and spread the word as much as you possibly can so that others do the same?

What Kripke says about Nielsen families in here is true, and is one of the most frustrating things about measuring TV viewership — hopefully, someday there is a better measurement of a show’s actual audience, but you kind of have to deal with whatever you can for the time being. If we as a collective “Timeless” following can attract some more of these Nielsen families to the show, then that certainly is a great thing for its long-term success.

Ultimately, we bring Kripke’s note to your attention largely because it is a reminder that the folks behind the scenes love making this show just as much as you love watching it. Therefore, there’s a real and very-present reason to keep fighting for it. That’s what we will continue to do until NBC makes their decision.
