‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Expectations for Aziz Ansari, Big Sean

SNL -Tonight’s new episode of “Saturday Night Live” is right about upon us, and based on everything going on in the headlines at the moment, we have every bit of confidence in the world that there’s plenty of material for this one!

It’s probably fair to assume that either Donald Trump or the Women’s March — possibly both — are going to be at the focal point of the cold open. Then, they’ll probably be referenced again later in “Weekend Update,” and possibly in Aziz Ansari’s monologue as well. “SNL” is not typically a show that references current events in every sketch, but we have a feeling that we’re going to get more of that in this episode than we’ve had in just about any installment of the show since Dave Chappelle hosted right after the election.

Will Alec Baldwin be back tonight? You have to assume so given the timing, and the fact that he’s been increasingly active in the political protest circuit over the past week and a half. He wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to get at Trump right after the Inauguration, would he?

As for the host for the evening, we’ve got all the confidence in the world that Ansari will be brilliant at this. He’s got a good relationship with several former cast members, so we imagine that there were some places prior to the show that he could go in order to obtain some sound advice. Then again, does he really need it? Probably not, given that Ansari is one of the best comedians working at the moment. He knows how to make people laugh in a live environment, and the only difference is that you’ve got a larger audience this time around. Chappelle, Louis CK, and Amy Schumer are all blueprints that he can follow as he moves into this episode — they all had brilliant monologues, and they showed over the course of their episodes that they had no problem getting big, bawdy, and incredibly ridiculous.
