‘Homeland’ season 6, episode 2 preview: Dar Adal on President-elect Keane

Homeland -This past Sunday’s season premiere episode of “Homeland” did a fine job of introducing us to President-elect Keane, one of the major players in the new season of the show. She is a character who does have some things in common with both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, but we don’t get the sense that her creation is meant solely to echo personality traits. Her danger is more of what she represents, and that is an unstable element that potentially does not know or realize the full extent of her power.

In the sneak peek below, this is something that Dar Adal tries to make clear to one of Keane’s advisers (Hill Harper) inside of a New York restaurant. This adviser acts as though being President is a trial-and-error process, where you have to give someone time and “a chance” in order to be the best President possible. This is not a world and a job where “chances” can be afforded. It has to be right the first time.

This is why Dar and Saul have to keep fighting. Even if Keane may have the best of intentions, she is still in many ways a woman completely unqualified for the position of President, and someone who doesn’t seem to fully understand the complexity of some issues. She tends to look at the world through a lens that is firmly black and white, and doesn’t see things nearly as much in a panoramic sense. They have to educate her that things are often far more complicated than they may at first seem, and while in the process of doing this, they also need to continue to be heroes for the people who need them.

If you are people within the CIA, the FBI, or any other organization, your work is never done. Having a contentious person in office simply just adds to the challenges that you face.

Let us know what you expect to see next from Keane in the comments, and be sure to head over here in the event that you want to get our recent discussion piece regarding the power of Rupert Friend’s performance in the premiere. (Photo: Showtime.)
