‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Aziz Ansari soaks it all in

SNL -There is often a reason for excitement prior to new episodes of “Saturday Night Live” coming on the air, but we personally do like to feel that this excitement is elevated to yet another level when speaking about Aziz Ansari in particular. The “Master of None” star is the first Indian-American person to host the show in its 42-year history, and to go along with that, he’s also incredibly funny. Odds are, this show has all the makings of being a great one.

The promo below also happens to be very enjoyable, in between the cool vibe, the music, the lighting, and the joke at the end: The goofy phone call that he receives from his mother. If you watch “Master of None,” then you know that Aziz cast his real-life parents on the show — there’s something about his mom being referenced here that makes it all the more fun.

With new episodes of “Master of None” coming later this year, the timing was certainly right for Aziz to stop by, especially since we haven’t heard from him in a minute and there’s a chance he’ll provide a fresh take on a wide array of different subjects. One thing we’re also secretly hoping for is a cameo from his former “Parks and Recreation” co-star Amy Poehler — given that she was an “SNL” staple for so long, wouldn’t it be nice to have a mini-reunion? (For the record, Aziz also works with another former cast member in Noel Wells on his new show.)

The musical guest for the show is Big Sean — we’re not as familiar with him musically, but we’ll put more of a spotlight there when we get closer to the weekend. Of course, we’re also going to have more to discuss when it comes to subject matter, given that it feels pretty much like a lock that Donald Trump’s inauguration is going to be a big part of the equation.

What do you think about this preview, and what’s your level of excitement to check out Ansari in action this weekend? Share some of your thoughts now with a comment, and head over here to get some more news right now when it comes to the show. (Photo: NBC.)
