‘Major Crimes’ renewed for season 6 by TNT

Major Crimes -

For all fans of “Major Crimes,” great news: We’re going to be seeing your favorite characters back for at least one more run of episodes on TNT.

After making you wait for many months, the network confirmed on Wednesday the the show will officially have a sixth season. They’ve ordered 13 episodes, but don’t take that for now as a sign that we’re getting an abbreviated final season. After all, this is something that they did with season 5 before ordering eight additional episodes and bringing the total order to 21. They’ve also picked up additional episodes of other seasons in the past. This is a strategy that TNT likes to utilize for the sake of giving themselves flexibility.

Even though the network has in some ways shifted from their crime-based focus that they had for many years, we’re glad to see “Major Crimes” going strong, and it continues to have a loyal audience. It’s one of the network’s most-watched series, and the nature of its stories allow it to be a show that repeats fairly well and can air all over the world. (Crime series typically have strong global appeal.)

One of the things we’re happiest about when it comes to this renewal is simply the timing of it. The second half of season 5 is going to premiere on Wednesday, February 22, and we had concerns that this date and the timeslot — which puts it into competition with “Criminal Minds” and “Law & Order: SVU” — would spell some trouble for the show. This renewal effectively means that at least for the time being, there is a little bit less to worry about when it comes to the show’s performance in the months ahead.

Now, the only thing to have anxiety over is waiting the next month or so until the show returns.

What do you think about the renewal news? As per usual, we want to hear some of your thoughts on the subject below! Meanwhile, be sure to head over here in the event you want to know some great casting news when it comes to the upcoming season 5 finale.
