Is Austin Armacost’s ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ elimination most unfair ever?

CBB -

Yesterday, “Celebrity Big Brother” dropped the hammer on Austin Armacost … or you could say his fellow housemates did. The show kicked off its “Weekend from Hell” by having the contestants vote on who they felt was the most boring person in the house, which we still feel was a twist designed by production to try and weed out someone who wasn’t really bringing the drama.

Unfortunately, we think that the show underestimated the housemates in a couple of different ways. First, they thought that pettiness would (for whatever reason) go out the window and they would take the question seriously. Instead, there were some who voted based just on who they didn’t like. Clearly, he’s not the right answer to the question. It’s like telling Santa Claus that you want a luxury yacht for Christmas on the odd chance he turns out to be real.

Then, there’s also the strategic element of the vote. Given that this is a show where terrible and unfair twists happen all the time (it’s like this in every version of the show), some of them likely thought that putting Austin Armacost’s name down would help, in one way or another, to send him packing from the game. It’s the debate of taking advantage of a potential twist as opposed to wasting it. You don’t know that casting a vote towards Austin is going to do anything — maybe it gives him more power, or it just does something stupid like exile him away from the group or make him eat a giant tin of chocolate pudding like Carl from “The Walking Dead.” Still, they have an opportunity to do something, and making a move is a million percent better than just designating someone genuinely boring with whatever the consequences (or benefits) of this vote are. If they go home, then you’ve just made your road to victory harder since no one was ever going to vote for them in the end and they could’ve been a brilliant person to bring to the finals. If they get a power, that’s just something that you work around.

No doubt, what happened to Austin was complete garbage, especially the awkward way in which he existed the show. Yet, at the same time this is a show that enjoys garbage more than Oscar the Grouch. It bathes in garbage! The winner is effectively the Garbage King! There are always ridiculously unfair twists, and you can argue that had Austin not been so confrontational at times, he wouldn’t have found himself in this position. Then again, maybe you also argue that had he been boring, he could have been voted out by the British public. It’s a trade-off, and you never quite know how to give the people what they want.

In getting back to the question at the start of this article, this is not the most unfair twist in the history of the show, mostly because this is an unfair show to begin with and if you expect anything otherwise we aren’t sure what show you’ve been watching because it’s not “Big Brother”. That’s probably why Austin seems so cool about it in the Twitter post below — you can either complain and moan about it, or move on and just realize that it’s a ridiculous reality TV game. There are so many other things in life to focus on.

Now that we’ve said all this … we’ll wait and see what sort of garbage awaits us a little bit later when the latest new episode airs. (Strangely, we may almost be adopting “garbage” as a term of endearment at this point.)
