On ‘Scandal’ season 6 and the continued evolution of Abby

Abby -The sixth season of “Scandal” is coming to ABC on January 26 (yes, it was originally going to be January 19, but alas), and there’s a lot to look forward to. Most of the discussion to date has revolved around the election storyline, and we do get that. Yet, at the same time we want to make it clear that there’s a whole lot more to look forward to beyond that.

Specifically, let’s talk Abby for a minute! There was a time when the character was a Gladiator, and ten, there was a time in which she was a Press Secretary. Moving into the next new chapter of the show, we know that she’s specifically taking on another important role with gusto: Chief of Staff. We’ve started to see her in this position, and based on what Darby Stanchfield told Entertainment Weekly recently, we’re only going to be seeing her get more confident from here:

“We pick up season 6 and Abby is still Chief of Staff … The difference so far is we see Abby is starting to get comfortable with her power. It’s been a long climb, a struggle, and a claw to get into the bubble of the White House. Now she’s really running the show and nobody seems to notice; it’s great.”

All of this is a great sign for the future of Abby, whatever that future may be. After all, if she’s not too publicly attached to Fitz as a power-broker for him, there is a reasonably good chance that she’ll be able to leapfrog from his administration to another position of prominence. After all, there’s no clear indication just yet as to how long the show will feature Tony Goldwyn’s character as President. We know that we’ll be seeing the election results in the premiere, but will there be a time jump after that to jump straight out of Fitz’s period of time as a lame-duck President? Time will tell.
