‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 7, episode 13 preview: The story of Masi Oka’s Max

Max -

While there are going to be a few different elements to the story on Friday night’s new episode of “Hawaii Five-0,” including a new case, there’s no doubt in our mind that the main event is going to be saying goodbye to Masi Oka’s character of Max, who has been a part of the show in some way or another from the first season.

We’ve seen a decent amount of the character over the years, but here’s the funny thing about him: For much of that, we haven’t really had a chance to get to know him or how he feels about some of the characters in the cast. He’ll be a part of a comedic moment here or there, but he’s there largely as a supplier of information to help further along the plot. The medical examiner doesn’t often get to do a lot of fun, crazy stuff out in the field.

What makes the sneak peek below fun is that we get to see more of a complete sequence from his point of view, and also how we learn more about how Kono to encourage him to get together with Sabrina. Jerry makes it clear to him that he owes her a great debt, and that may be something that he had not fully acknowledged or realized until now. While there is going to be a heavy component of this episode that revolves around watching Max say goodbye, there could be another component of it that is Max sharing gratitude. In one way or another, these people are family, and we imagine that he’ll still keep in touch with him even if we don’t see him on the show.

With that in mind, one of the other exciting things about this character still being alive is that it does continue to raise the possibility that we get to see more of him on the show down the road. There are no guarantees, but maybe Oka could return for a milestone episode or finale down the line. We’ve already seen some of that happen with Michelle Borth’s character of Catherine.
