People’s Choice Awards 2017: ‘X Factor’ alum Fifth Harmony to ‘debut’ as four-person group

For those of you wondering when Fifth Harmony would make their first official TV appearance without Camila Cabello as a part of the group, we’ve now got an official answer coming your way: The People’s Choice Awards airing a little bit later this month. Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui and Normani Kordei will all be taking to the stage, and odds are that you will get a chance to see all of the perform some slightly-different arrangements of familiar songs.

This show is coming to CBS on January 18 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, and it could prove to be a rather-big night for the former “X Factor” super-group, given that they are also up for Favorite Group after winning the award last year. They’ve arguably had a more successful past year this time around than the year they won it, so you gotta figure that they have a pretty good chance at taking it home. (The reason we put “debut” in quotes in the title is because they’ve already taken photos together as a foursome, and even performed in various iterations like that. This is just the first time on a major TV show.)

While we definitely got the sense early on that there was some definite tension between Cabello and everyone else over what happened to cause the split in the group, it does feel now as though the metaphorical ice is starting to melt a little bit. The tweet below from Cabello talking about an Ellen DeGeneres tweet is lighthearted, and clearly meant to inject a little bit more levity into the situation.

In general, we anticipate the People’s Choice Awards being a fairly fun night, and not one where there is some crazy over-abundance of drama. After all, the show is being hosted by Joel McHale, who should be fairly lighthearted with most of the nominees. As for reality stars and political figures, that’s an entirely different story. It’ll probably be a little more daring of a show than the Golden Globes were with Jimmy Fallon, and that may be the first we say this in the entire history of these two awards shows.
