‘The Voice UK’ premiere: Max Vickers, roommate Mo close out first audition show

Voice -Today marked the premiere of “The Voice UK” on ITV, and we were for the most part very much happy to see it back. This is the part of the competition that we do very much enjoy, since the Blind Auditions do remain a great twist.

Now, let’s get controversial for a moment here. Is the new twist a good one for the show? We’re of two minds of it. Yes, it does feel incredibly cruel to have people go through what they do to get on the show, but at the same time, how often are those segments boring? You hear coaches say things like “oh, I wish I had turned around” or giving halfhearted compliments that they don’t often mean just because they don’t want to pile on.

Maybe the happy medium is this: Give us a chance to see the coaches greet the artists regardless of if they get a turn, but limit them to just a minute or so of feedback. Don’t waste a lot of time on it, but don’t be cruel at the same time.

The show tonight closed off with two roommates in Max Vickers (a former “X Factor” hopeful) and his roommate, a guy who just went by the name of Mo. These two guys had the best story of the show, especially the latter given that he’s been through quite a bit in life.

Max did manage to get Gavin Rossdale as a coach, mostly because Sir Tom Jones hit his button a little too late. As for Mo, it was clear that this guy was going to get a lot of love, and he did! This was a dramatic four-chair turn. As for who he chose, he ultimately went with … Jennifer!
