AMC creates new ‘Walking Dead’ marathon covering season 4B through season 7A

twdThere was a time when AMC would run marathons for “The Walking Dead” that would help new viewers to catch up on the entirety of the season. However, that was a tad easier when the show only had a few seasons on the air, and the first couple of seasons were shorter than the rest. Now, we’ve come to an era where there are 16 episodes a year and six full seasons in the can already; it’s a little harder for the network to find the real-estate necessary to stick the entire series on the air, especially when many episodes extend the typical run-time.

Nonetheless, the show is still doing some of what they can over the course of the New Year’s Eve holiday in order to help people catch up. Whether or not that works, however, remains to be seen.

Starting at 10:00 p.m. Eastern tonight and running through 1:15 a.m. on Monday, January 2, the cable network will be running new episodes of the entire show. They will begin with the season 4B premiere, and then eventually carry you through the first half of season 7. With this, you can see the entire birth of the Alexandria story, the fall of certain characters like Gareth (remember when we thought he’d be more of a thing?), and the buildup and arrival of Negan — one of the most feared and polarizing villains to date.

Maybe, airing some recent episodes of the past year or so at once will help to give some people out there a different perspective. One of the biggest criticisms of season 7 to date, whether it be at this site or elsewhere, is how almost everything is paced at a crawl. It took several episodes this season to even lay out the groundwork before anything of substance actually happened; if you’re not waiting week-to-week for more new episodes, maybe this is slightly less frustrating. Either way, you probably are going to want to throw something at the TV watching Carl and Enid roller-skate.

Now that we’ve said that, we do still firmly believe that the show’s producers absolutely should step it up in some way to make season 7B a little more buzz-worthy and exciting; ratings are at their lowest point in years, and this is not a coincidence. There are specific reasons why the show is starting to shed some viewers.
