‘The Walking Dead’ season 7 spoilers: There may be more drama ahead at the Sanctuary

twdWe know that there are some people out there already who are suffering from a little bit of Negan fatigue over on “The Walking Dead,” just because the character’s presence looms so large over almost everything and there’s just something about his behavior that lends itself to be rather polarizing.

While we do agree with some of that sentiment, we’ve come away from the first part of season 7 more enthralled with the story of Dwight and Sherry than we thought that we would be. This is the case of two people doing what they have to in order to survive — she agreed to leave Dwight and be with Negan, and it’s incredibly painful; yet, there’s something about her that makes you think that she could find her way out of this okay. She’s a little bit reminiscent of Margaery Tyrell from “Game of Thrones,” who is a character who (spoilers from that show ahead) probably could’ve ended up ruling the Iron Throne at the very end of the series had a couple of things gone a little bit differently.

While we cannot say for sure now what is going to be coming up for the Sherry character, the comments from Christine Evangelista (who plays her) to Yahoo! do make us think that there is good potential to explore quite a few different angles here moving into the future:

“When she and Dwight came back to the Sanctuary … he was going to be murdered, and she agreed to become [Negan’s] wife in exchange for his life. I think she’s looking at this as just this very self-sacrificial thing: ‘This is who I have to be in order for us all to survive.’ It’s almost mechanical in a way. She’s always plotting a next move. She’s very strong, she’s very determined, but she’s always a step ahead in some way.”

Hopefully, we’ll get a better sense of her story when “The Walking Dead” returns to AMC with new episodes in February.
