‘NCIS’ season 14, episode 9 video: The threats in ‘Pay to Play’

NCIS -After a little bit of a break, there’s set to be a new episode of “NCIS” coming on the air Tuesday night entitled “Pay to Play” that is going to be so much more than the standard investigation into a murder — politics are going to play a key role, as well.

The case starts to really ramp up when an aide to Congresswoman Jenna Fleming (Mary Stuart Masterson) comes to the team and makes it clear that the Congresswoman has become front and center for a series of dangerous threats. These are extreme enough for him to suspect that someone may actually be planning to have something terrible happen to her.

So what is going to be coming after that? Something shocking: He reveals that she does not want to go to the FBI about it, so he is coming to the NCIS in secret to hand the information over. He’s trying to do the right thing, even if it goes against his boss’ own desires.

At first it’s not entirely clear as to why she would not want the authorities in on the threats, but then the second sneak peek comes along and we understand why. Fleming is irate about the NCIS looking into this, felling as though she is more than capable of looking after herself. She also understands the perception of it looking like she cannot take care of herself, especially as a woman in politics doing her part to show strength and confidence. This is unfortunately a statement of the sexism that sometimes does still exist within the Washington world. Luckily, she will have a team around her that will probably try to do their work discreetly, though there are no guarantees.

In the end, this looks to be a pretty top-notch, powerful case — there are a lot of different threats for the team to sift through, and it could be even more difficult if Fleming continues to resist the investigation at its core.
