‘Supergirl’ season 2, episode 9: Will Lillian Luthor return?

Supergirl -

At the end of Monday night’s winter finale for “Supergirl,” it may be fairly easy to assume that the story for Lillian Luther would finally be at an end. After all, you saw the character get arrested after her daughter Lena completely played her, using the trust that could exist against her. It was her biggest move to date to show that she wasn’t like her family, while at the same time it was a great chance for Kara to have at the very least temporary peace before Barry Allen stopped by asking for a favor.

So is the story of Lillian, and her alien-hating Project Cadmus, completely at an end? Don’t count on that in the slightest, judging from what executive Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly in a postmortem for that episode:

“We have absolutely not seen the last of Lillian and Cadmus … Sometimes an enemy is deadliest when they are trapped. How Lillian deals with her incarceration and what happens moving forward will make up part of the storyline of the next batch of episodes. But Cadmus is a multi-tiered organization, and like the worst terrorist groups, you cut down one head, another rises in its place.”

Now, the question that we do personally wonder at the moment is if we really need Cadmus anymore, given that much of their story to date has revolved around them creating a monster, whether it be a physical one or one that spreads like a disease, and then sitting back to try and watch the world burn. For the most part, we wouldn’t say that a lot of these have been particularly eventful ones to watch since we don’t have a backstory for many of these characters.

Is Cyborg Superman an exception to the rule? We’d argue so, mostly because of the sole fact that he is a character who comes from a little bit of a different place within the universe. We know him already, we’ve seen how he feels about aliens, and perhaps most important we know where he’s coming from. He’s a dangerous dude who could pop up and prove to be a threat down the road — we’re sure he’s far from gone right now.
