‘Madam Secretary’ season 3, episode 8 preview: Election Day
Just in case you haven’t been through enough stress already when it comes to Presidential Elections, next week’s new episode of “Madam Secretary” is going to bring you just a little bit more. The title for this installment is “Breakout Capacity,” and based on what we’re hearing right now, this could be the hour of television where you start to piece together just what is going to be coming for President Dalton after spending so much time fighting as an independent candidate.
Synopsis – “As President Dalton eagerly awaits voting results on Election Day, Elizabeth uncovers information that could put the U.S.’s peace deal with Iran in jeopardy. Also, election night proves to be one filled with possible romance for some of McCord’s staffers, and Jason challenges his parents by supporting one of Dalton’s presidential competitors, on MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, Nov. 27 (9:30-10:30 PM, ET/9:00-10:00 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network. Sam Daly returns to guest star as lobbyist Win Barrington, Daisy’s ex-fiancé.”
There’s obviously a rather big part of us that feels reasonably confident that we’re going to see Dalton take this election home, largely because of the sole fact that you would otherwise run into a situation where Elizabeth may not be Secretary of State anymore and that is a fundamentally different show, unless of course someone else wins and appoints her anyway. If that happens, what becomes of Keith Carradine as a regular? There are so many other alternate scenarios that it becomes hard to envision what the future of the show would be unless the results of the election go a particular way.
Even if the results do end up being predictable, isn’t there something to be said for the journey? This could be an exciting episode nonetheless, largely because of what the other storylines are, including Jason’s surprising allegiance to someone on another ticket, effectively rooting in some way for Bess to indirectly lose her job.
