‘Major Crimes’ season 5 spoilers: ‘American Crime Story’ actor to rival Sharon Raydor

Major Crimes -

One of the major stories that is going to be playing out on the second half of “Major Crimes” this season will be learning precisely who will be in charge moving forward in the position of Assistant Chief of Special Operations. This was a position held by Russell Taylor until we rolled around to the end of the recent season finale, and now this is a role that the show has to figure out how to fill moving forward.

We know that Sharon Raydor will be one key player for the job, and we’ve also learned that Camryn Manheim’s character, the Deputy Chief of Operations, is also going to be a contender for the job. You can now add a third name to that list, as well.

Per TVLine, Leonard Roberts, who is coming off of playing Dennis Schatzman on a different sort of crime series in “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story,” is going to be checking into the series as a completely different opponent. Specifically, he will be playing the part of Leo Mason of the Criminal Intelligence Division.

What seems to make this story interestingly from this standpoint is how much the show looks to be keeping things as realistic as possible. You have three candidates here who are all qualified on paper for the job, and to a certain degree, they’ll likely be willing to fight for it. Our hope is that Sharon will end up getting it, while at the same time continuing to have a key part in the show. With the promotion would potentially come more responsibility and a better life, and after paying her dues for so many years and climbing the ranks, isn’t she deserving of that?

The second half of “Major Crimes” season 5 will be premiering at some point in early 2017.
